Abydos is located in the low desert west of the river Nile near Al Balyana. This site comprise of super-structures that are located close to each other. The tombs are identified through inscriptions. Among ten enclosures only eight are identifiable. The tombs belong to Djer, Djet and queen mother Merneith of 1st dynasty and Peribsen and Khasekhemwy of the 2nd dynasty.
